Domestic Abuse Victims

Abusive behavior, while common, is never acceptable. Victims in abusive situations are often too timid to report the circumstances of abuse. At Vervaecke Law & Mediation we want to empower victims of Domestic abuse to seek help and escape the influence of abuse through legal intervention.

Domestic abuse, also known as spousal abuse, occurs when one person tries to dominate or control another person. The main ways that this abuse occurs is through physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or economic abuse. Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of size, gender, race, or strength, yet it is often overlooked, excused, and denied. This is especially true when the abuse is psychological, rather than physical. Though the effects of emotional abuse cannot be tangibly seen, emotional abuse can leave deep and permanent scars to those who endure it.

If you or your child is in danger from a relative or member of your household, we urge you to take measures immediately to prevent continued abuse. Vervaecke Law & Mediation will file for a protection order and help you find the resources you need to protect yourself and your child. No matter what difficult circumstances you are facing, we will fight for you to help you feel safe again.
